Rapid Site Cleanup

Do you have a contaminated site that needs to be cleaned in the next 12 months?

Strict cleanup criteria – but little time?

Selling your site and need site closure now?

We can help you! TerraTherm specializes in the fast and effective removal of contaminants from soil and groundwater, using state-of-the art thermal technology to heat and treat sites in periods of 3 to 4 months, depending on size and contaminants. From start to finish, a project can be completed in 9 to 12 months (or less).

How is the site treated and closed?  We use In-Situ Thermal Desorption (ISTD) to heat the contaminated areas to a temperature high enough to vaporize, desorb, and destroy the contaminants in place, which eliminates the risks associated with excavation and offsite disposal. A vacuum extraction system ensures complete capture, and treats the extracted NAPL, water, and vapors. Field operations typically last about 3 to 4 months. Interim soil sampling is used to confirm performance before the system is turned off.

How can we do it so fast?  Because we have know-how from 15 field projects, and have met stringent remedial goals at more sites than any other thermal vendor. The ISTD technology works faster and provides more complete cleanup than ERH and SEE, which eliminates the need for polishing during and after cool-down. When we demobilize, the site is clean. This is verified by sampling before we shut the system down.

Typical fast-track project timeline:

Month 1. Evaluation and cost estimate.
Month 2. Design finished.
Month 3. Permitting finished.
Month 4. Procurement and mobilization.
Month 5. Construction begins.
Month 7. Operation begins.
Month 11. Demobilization and confirmatory sampling.
Month 12. Reporting and site restoration.

What contaminants can be removed this quickly?  Basically, all VOCs (for example, chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvents) at any depth, and SVOCs (for example, PCBs, coal tar, creosote, pesticides) located above the water table. With SVOCs below the water table, additional water control measures are needed, such as hydraulic isolation or longer operational periods.

How do I know that the site will be clean enough?  TerraTherm’s process is robust enough that we offer performance guarantees for a small premium. We have completed several projects under such conditions, and have met the goals every time.

How do I find out if my site can be closed?  Please contact us immediately to discuss the site. We will send a detailed questionnaire with about 40 questions about your site. Once you submit that information, we can provide an evaluation and cost estimate within 3 days.
